Joined a familiar face in Steve Lai at BBC News earlier this morning to share my thoughts on the evolving crisis in the Middle East. I explained how:
(1) Air defence systems have performed commendably across the Gulf, but the targeting of civilian infrastructure risks crossing a red line for Gulf leaderships — one that could fundamentally alter their calculus.
(2) Iran is courting dangerous isolation — particularly damaging given that Gulf states had actively lobbied in Tehran’s favour prior to this episode. Threat perceptions are shifting rapidly: where Israel was once seen as the pre-eminent threat, Iranian actions are quickly casting Tehran in that role.
